Chateau des Charmes

Chateau des Charmes is another of Rose and my favourites.  A beautiful building, located in the Niagara-on-the-Lake sub-region close to the QEW (Queen’s Expressway, the “interstate” highway between Buffalo and Toronto), with a large patio in the back looking at St. David’s Bench and the vineyard.   They have a large paved parking lot but with a bit of a walk to the winery depending on where you end up parking.  The fountain and greenery in the front make a fine photo opportunity!

The tasting area is ample although not particularly large and can get crowded.  Nothing that a little patience can’t overcome.  The tastings are generous and the wines are quite good.  At the risk of decreasing the supply of one of my personal favourite wines, the Gamay Noir ‘Droit’ is excellent!

The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.  If you ask a question that they don’t know the answer to, they will find out for you.  There is no food service at Chateau des Charmes but if you need food, they’re very close to the Outlet Mall and there are a couple of restaurants there.  Likewise, St. Catherines is nearby with plenty of places to eat.

Chateau des Charmes is one of our favourite Niagara-on-the-lake wineries.
