This is, in my opinion, one of the best wineries in Niagara and one of two 5 star wineries on this site. Several of their wines are among the best that I’ve had in Niagara. There is only one other winery on the Niagara Peninsula that I can honestly say has no bad wines.
The winery itself is beautiful although parking is limited. The tasting room has been recently refurbished and is really nice. The staff is helpful and friendly. Also among the most knowledgeable although, like all wineries, that will vary depending on who is available. As you can see from the photo, the grounds are beautiful. There is a small terrace but I’m not sure whether it’s open to guests. There are also several picnic tables on the grounds looking towards the lake.
The tastings are generous and very informative. If you’re unsure what wines to try, this is the place for you as the pourers (at least on all of our visits) will ask you questions to determine your tastes and then recommend wines for you. The only down side to this is that if you do know what you want to try, you will have to let them know and stand your ground.
To the best of my knowledge, they do not serve food at Tawse but don’t let that keep you away from the spectacular wines here. In particular, try their Rieslings (they have several) just to see the amazing differences the terroir makes in flavours. Also, I’m not normally a Chardonnay drinker but the Tawse Chardonnay is fantastic! Highly recommended!
